18 Aug (Sun): Worlds of Fun Village, Kansas City, MO, to 25 Aug, then south to another area campground to 07 Sep. Talking to our son-in-law, Bill, a Union Pacific engineer, he tells us of the mega trains hes now sometimes driving: 14,391’ long (2.73 miles), 23,744 tons (47,488,000 lbs), 279 cars carrying mixed freight, powered by 6 working locomotives (2 in the front, 2 mid-train, 2 in the rear). Gee, we were thinking Time Bandit towing Rubi J @ 65’ and 36,221 lbs was big. We’re now reconsidering that.

Drove 311 mi. yesterday thru central/eastern WA, across northern ID, and into MT. Saw many very large wheat fields as well as a lot of ranch land. Then, it was into the forested Rocky Mtns--crossed some passes and drove on some roads in MT I had not been on before as I followed rivers and creeks. It was hot--92 at one point here in MT. I am on Flathead Lake looking at the countryside I used to fly fire patrols over 50 years ago and visiting with my friend Marie Christensen from AZ. Zia is doing well.
