19 Jul (Wed): KOA, Shingletown, CA, to 30 July continuing our two-month northward journey in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. As in King’s Canyon and Sequoia Nat’l Parks and on Donner Summit near Lake Tahoe, high elevations in Lassen Volcanic Nat’l Park still sport vast fields of last winter’s record snowfall. Trails remain closed, some by drifts 30’ deep, but we’re enjoying many “boots on the ground” adventures totaling 94.04 miles and 13,494’ elevation gain since early June. Our first Lassen hike is tomorrow.
